As of noon today, only the Class of 2015 remains on campus. It seems like yesterday we gathered for new student registration and headed into the woods for Wilderness Orientation.
Yesterday, we gathered together for our final assembly of the 2014-2015 school year. I mentioned to the community that this would be the last time we gathered as this unique group of individuals. Seniors will graduate. Some faculty will retire (like Patrice Martin, Charlie Durell, and Judy Preston who combined have given Proctor 87 years of service!). Others will move on to other opportunities. Next fall approximately 125 new students will arrive and begin their Proctor journey. New faculty will move onto campus and invigorate us with their energy.
As students complete final exams and walk into summer, they should be proud of the race they have run. The race for some started four years ago, but each school year is a unique chapter in Proctor's history; the 2014-2015 version of Proctor will never be replicated. This group of students has inspired us with their diverse talents, passions, and collective commitment to making this world a better place. They have taken risks by stepping outside their comfort zones, and have challenged faculty to be the best educators we can be. Each has uniquely shaped our community in a meaningful way. Each has run his or her respective race well, and for that I am thankful.
Have a great summer and share your thoughts with me in the comments below.
