Over the last decade, Proctor Academy's European Art Classroom program has provided hundreds of students the opportunity to immerse themselves in an art colony in the south of France. With COVID-19 shutting down international travel, program directors Dave and Jen Fleming reinvented the art immersion program stateside. Retaining the essence of the European Art Classroom experience (shared meals, plein air painting, art history and culture classes, art journals, sketchbooks, and living in community), the Southwest Art Classroom experience is underway in Arizona. Enjoy this brief update from Pheobe '21!
Although 2020 was a rough year for many of us, because of COVID-19, my peers and I have stepped into an opportunity to study on European Art Classroom that we did not think was going to be our reality.
Miraculously, all eight of us Proctor students ended up 45 minutes outside Phoenix, Arizona in our little town of Casa Grande (oddly pronounced Kasa - Grand, not Causa-Grandā). All of us are currently enjoying painting the beautiful mountainous landscapes around here.
Aside from the beautiful mountains directly outside the property, we have even had the opportunity to visit Saguaro National Park West. which has so far been the highlight for many of us.
We all hope our amazing experience will smoothly continue. Here are some more photos, enjoy.
