As I reflect on this week I instead reflect on the whole experience here in Arizona. This past week in our town Casa Grande, has been chock-full of lasts. When we returned home from Sedona awhile back, it hit all of us that soon we would be leaving our sweet home.
The stress of having our book projects (term long art history, studio art and literature class project) was taken away by the beautiful weather we get to enjoy here every day. 80 and sunny were average this week. We took advantage of the weather as we always do and hopped in our van, Geppetto (Pinocchio’s creator), and drove down to Catalina State Park outside of Tucson.
Even though it was oddly chilly, we set our easels for the last time and painted our favorite things by now, Cactus and Mountains.
On Wednesday we completed our final painting, a graded one… of a bird. As someone who came on this experience with such little artistic ability I was very proud of myself and the others’.
Our dear Birddie aka Birgit turns 18 today! A very exciting day for everyone. Dinner by request of the birthday girl: Spaghetti Bolognese and yummy red velvet cake!
In other news, today everyone stitched and finished their book projects! For the past 8 weeks everyone has been grinding along on this epic project and so today smiles and signs of relief were visible as everyone congratulated each other.
Even though my book fought back I used the help of my amazing teachers and friends to finish it up. Most people have packed up by now for both Santa Fe which is our last week of adventures, and for home.
It is crazy how time can go by so quickly, but as they say, “time flies when you're having fun”. As I sit on my warm porch with the wind blowing my hair, I leave you with this poem…
Our home in Casa Grande
Is so hot you might need a fan
But when we go on adventures in the van
` we make up such a good band
Looking out at the land
I get excited as my art expands
Kerri always needs to pee so she commands
Dave sometimes misunderstands
But Jen’s always there to lend a hand
Anna, Birgit, Hailey, Phoebe, Emily, and Kerri are always crammed
Cha and Max think they’re both the man
Because they got so much room in the back of the van
Every day we can tan
And after this trip, we can
Do much better art than when we began
New Mexico is way better than Japan
They won't expect such a great Clan
