Mountain Classroom: The Crafting of Intentional Community

We talk about community and relationships a lot at Proctor. We have a TOGETHER banner hanging on the wall of the Wilkins Meetinghouse. We experience that community and “togetherness” by watching our Hornet teams capture big wins, meeting weekly as advisory groups, or hanging out with friends in a dorm common room. 

Proctor en Segovia: Learning Through Travel

Proctor en Segovia students learn about the Spanish language and culture in history, literature, and Spanish classes and simply by living with a Spanish host family. Powerful learning also occurs during week-long excursions to Spain's diverse regions. Proctor en Monteverde: Exploring the Rain Forest

Six sophomores are studying abroad in Monteverde, Costa Rica this winter. Over the past two weeks, students have continued their academic courses while immersing themselves in the biodiversity of the Children’s Eternal Rainforest. Ocean Classroom: A View from the Keys

Proctor Academy's Ocean Classroom program has arrived in the Florida Keys after a 400 mile voyage from northeast Florida. En route to Mobile, Alabama to see first hand the last slave ship to arrive in America (the Clotilda) and to continue their studies on the history of involuntary servitude, injustice, and the Civil Rights Movement in America, the crew of students from Proctor and the MET High School (Providence, RI) are well on their way to becoming true sailors. With temperatures plummeting well below zero over the next two days, we find ourselves in the heart of winter; academic classes, research papers, projects, athletic schedules, and musical rehearsals fill our days and minds. With four weeks until the end of the Winter Term, this stretch of the school year can feel especially challenging for all of us.
