Each year, the Proctor community welcomes new faculty and staff to campus over the summer months. Wednesday evening, Head of School Mike Henriques and his wife, Betsy Paine, hosted a wonderful dinner for new faculty and staff at their home on campus. The energy among the new adults in the community this summer has been palpable and everyone is visibly excited for our first students to arrive on campus next week.
Last spring, we said goodbye to three long-time faculty and staff when Marie Montivirdi, Lida Beaudoin, and Ed Barkowski retired with a collective 96 years of service to Proctor. While we will certainly miss Marie, Lida, Ed, and the other four faculty and staff who took off for new adventures, here is a brief introduction to the new faces you will see on campus this year!
(Left to Right: Allan Royal, Erica Wheeler, Carlton Wheeler-Omiunu, Kayla Wagner, Natasha Langsdorf, Cade Overton, Lisa Ensign Wood, Kara Kidder, Christin Lathrop)
Erica Wheeler ‘00: Student Activities, Athletics, Softball Coach
Erica returns to Proctor where she was a student in the late 1990s (and even survived Y2K during her senior year!). Erica skied at Proctor before matriculating to Northeastern University. After stints working in the ski industry for Rossignol and Nordica, Erica took over as Okemo Mountain School’s Director of Admission and Development. She returned to the area a few years ago, and most recently served as Colby-Sawyer College’s director of student activities. Erica brings with her tremendous energy and a deep love for the Proctor community. In addition to her role as student activities coordinator, she will serve as assistant equipment manager and head softball coach.
Christin Lathrop: Admissions
Christin joins Proctor’s Admissions team after a long stint at Burke Mountain Academy where she coached skiing and served as the Director of Admission. Christin skied for Dartmouth College and the US Ski Team, before returning to the independent school world. She brings tremendous experience, an appreciation for Proctor's breadth of programming, and the role of community in educating adolescents.
Kayla Wagner: Admissions, Carriage House
An alum of New Hampshire boarding schools (New Hampton School) and native of Bristol, New Hampshire, Kayla is excited to put her Outdoor Education degree from UNH and her experience as an adventure educator in Colorado to use with Proctor students. Kayla joins Proctor’s admissions team and will be an integral part of the intentional Eco-Dorm community of Carriage House this year.
Carlton Wheeler-Omiunu: Admissions, Girls’ Varsity Soccer, Mary Lowell Stone House
Carlton’s role within the community shifted over the summer as he moved from serving as assistant equipment manager in the athletic department to work as an admissions counselor, dorm parent in MLS, and head girls’ varsity soccer coach for the upcoming year. A native of Bellingham, Massachusetts, Carlton coached the jv boys’ soccer team last fall to an impressive record, and is excited to step into a new role with the girls’ soccer program where he can further utilize his own playing (Colby-Sawyer College) and coaching (Kearsarge United club soccer program) experience to guide the girls' program forward.
Lisa Ensign Wood: Admissions, PAPA Steering Committee
Lisa joined Proctor’s Admissions team earlier this summer when she stepped into the role of Admissions Office Coordinator. She is the first person to greet visiting families when they arrive on campus, and is a tremendous addition to the team! A native, and current resident, of New London, Lisa graduated from Colby College and worked for many years as a writer and editor for Wadsworth Publishing Company in San Francisco. Returning to New London, Lisa raised her family while serving on many local non-profit boards and volunteer organizations. She and her husband, Michael, are pleased to serve on the PAPA Steering Committee as three of their children have attended Proctor (Ian ’15, Connor ’18 and Mackenzie ’20).
Kara Kidder: Counselor
We are very excited to welcome Kara to Proctor’s Counseling Office where she will work part-time this year. Kara is an experienced counselor, and currently works at the Baird Health and Counseling Center at Colby-Sawyer College. Her husband, Putnam, teaches kindergarten at Andover Elementary Middle School, and we are excited to welcome their family to Proctor.
Natasha Langsdorf: Communications, Dorm Surrogate
Natasha joined Proctor’s communications team in mid-June and has made an immediate impact coordinating stewardship communications with the development team. A thirteen year veteran of Aloha Hive, part of the Aloha Foundation in Fairlee, Vermont, and recent graduate of Elon University, Natasha brings with her an appreciation of the energy needed to thrive in a student community like Proctor.
Cade Overton: Lovejoy Library
A resident of nearby Bristol, NH, Cade joins the Proctor community as an assistant library in the Lovejoy Library. A graduate of Clark University with a degree in fine and studio arts, he worked as a photographer and writer before joining the Worcester Public Library in 2014. We are excited to welcome Cade’s creativity and passion for the arts to the Lovejoy Library and to the Proctor community.
Allan Royal: Math Department
Allan joins Proctor’s Math Department in a part-time capacity this fall after serving as an assistant jv boys lacrosse coach in the past. Allan’s three children (Maggie ‘16, Sam ‘18, and Julia ‘19) have been a part of the Proctor community since his family moved to Andover four years ago. Allan and his wife, Eliza, have been integral parts of the Proctor community as PAPA volunteers over the past few years, and Allan is excited to step into this new role.
