Mountain Classroom: The Crafting of Intentional Community

We talk about community and relationships a lot at Proctor. We have a TOGETHER banner hanging on the wall of the Wilkins Meetinghouse. We experience that community and “togetherness” by watching our Hornet teams capture big wins, meeting weekly as advisory groups, or hanging out with friends in a dorm common room.

Each Proctor student graduates with a transcript filled with numbers and letters, a snapshot of their Proctor experience. While useful in some ways, this quick reference guide originally developed to standardize our assessment of a student’s “intelligence” for college admissions counselors insufficiently captures the entirety of a student’s growth journey through their high school years. 

Academic Lens: Don't Take a Picture, You Might Lose Your Soul

It is a refrain from a song written by my brother, Trent Wagler, and performed by his band The Steel Wheels. The song, based on stories from our grandfather, presents the challenges faced by a young person growing up in the Amish church. The Amish, famous for their buggies, bonnets, baking and furniture are a sect of anabaptists who broke off from the Mennonites in the late 17th century.
