Jan 31, 2015 2:47:00 PM
Grace and Frances reflect on the Proctor en Segovia Winter 2015 first long excursion to Murcia (Cartagena), Almería (Cabo de Gata National Park) and the city of Málaga in Andalucía. Warning: includes some humor and one very large metaphor.

Mike's Notes: Hays Speaking Prize

Jan 29, 2015 8:47:09 AM

There are certain memories of certain climbs that still make my palms sweat, still make my heart rate pick up: the crux pitch on Pingora in the Wind River Range, a harrowing descent from the summit of the Grand Teton in a thunderstorm, the chimney pitch on Castleton Tower. Those moments of physical challenge coupled with mental focus create strong, sticky memories. The only thing that has ever quite replicated that sensation for me in the same manner is public speaking.  Delivering in front of a crowd.

Proctor Alumni: Inspiring the Next Generation

Jan 28, 2015 9:37:00 AM

As a school, it is our hope every alum leaves Proctor with a passion, pursues that passion with unbridled ambition, and then eventually shares that passion with others. Nick Fairall ‘07 left Proctor with a passion for ski jumping. He pursued this avocation until it became his vocation at the international level. After making a name for himself on the international jumping circuit, he won the US qualifier and made the US Ski Jumping team for the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

European Art Classroom: In the Land of Charlie - Paris, France

Jan 26, 2015 6:02:00 AM

We set off on Monday morning before the sun was awake, fighting heavy morning commuter traffic and listening to a French morning radio talk show we couldn’t understand. Cutting it extremely close, we arrived at the train station five minutes before departure time and, after a brief jog through the parking lot, we were safely in our seats with our sights set on the city of lights.

Academic Lens: Finding Our Center

Jan 24, 2015 10:45:50 AM

I had the privilege of sitting in on Lynne Kenney’s Leadership and Ethics class yesterday. Over the past few classes, retired Learning Specialist, Ellen Yenawine, has worked with students to identify their Myers & Briggs type using the MBTI. For more than two decades, Ellen utilized the insights gained through the MBTI to help her Learning Skills students better understand themselves as learners.

Mike's Notes: Collective Progress

Jan 23, 2015 8:59:00 AM

This week started with an MLK Day program, and it ends with me on the road in Florida. It started in the Meeting House with a clip of Martin Luther King, Jr's “I Have Been to the Mountaintop” speech from April 3, 1968, and it wraps up in a Marriott Hotel in very flat Florida.
