Proctor's European Art Classroom program is underway in Aix en Provence. After a year stateside in the American Southwest, this lucky group of eight students alongside program directors Jen and Dave Fleming are created their own artist colony in the south of France. Read more from Bella '22 below!
After a chaotic start, and a long night of travel I arrived in France four days after the group's initial arrival date.

Upon my arrival, I was greeted by the faces I had left in Boston. Having had to travel after everyone else I jumped right into the fun.
As we drove into the center of Aix I got to witness everything I had only been able to imagine. The magic that is Aix-en-Provence. I got my first taste of the city no more than an hour after landing in France.
Led by Dave, we toured Aix, learning about its history and that of an artist we read about before arriving: Paul Cezanne. It was the perfect way to start what will be an incredible two months.
Throughout our first full week in France our group has gotten to do so many different things. Whether wandering the streets of Aix trying to find a place to eat, enjoying our late night jam seshes or even trying to understand locals as they attempt to talk to us while we are painting in public, we are always laughing, having a good time and making the most of our time.

Term long book project. For Libby, different flowers will represent the different art movements.
For Cam, showing the evolution of a building, stained glass, a sculpture or a painting will be her thread throughout the book.
Our first graded painting assignment is the olive branch. A tradition, I mean we live in an orchard of them.

This week has just been the start of what will continue to be a fantastic opportunity for us all. Now that we are finally all together as a group we can not wait to continue this adventure!
And here I sit, in a Roman amphitheater, finished around 90 A.D. Also, Vincent van Gogh lived here for a year and two months. Here he painted most of his recognizable and iconic paintings. Over 200 and numerous drawings, watercolors and letters, most to his brother Theo. Enjoy our blog! - Bella '22
