Proctor Athletics: Fall Athletic Awards

After a year of pandemic athletics, Proctor's fall athletic teams were anxious to take to the fields and trails. Boasting the best combined record Proctor athletics has seen in a number of years, including NEPSAC tournament bids by both girls varsity soccer and varsity field hockey, teams across the board worked hard, improved, bonded as teams, and represented Proctor well both on and off the field. Core to the success of our athletic programs this fall was the tireless work of coaches and Athletic Department staff.

Proctor Athletics: NEPSAC Tournament Bids

Proctor’s fall varsity athletic teams combined for a 32-16-5 record, with both varsity girls soccer and varsity field hockey earning berths in the NEPSAC Class C Tournament. Varsity football and varsity boys soccer both narrowly missed bids to the tournament, as well, marking the first time in recent history that all four teams were in playoff contention in the same year. On a quiet Sunday afternoon, filled with final exam preparations, we reflect on the past two days and all that transpired within our remarkable little community. Starting on Friday morning with the arrival of our Board of Trustees on campus for the first time in two years, we enjoyed a 48 hour sprint that included our final Fall Term classes, a Holderness Day pep rally in assembly, Fall Term Art Show, Dance and Jazz/Rock Ensemble performances, and a full day of competitions for Holderness Day 2021.

After graduating a talented group of seniors last season, Head Coach Ian Hamlet and Assistant Coach Peter Southworth had a number of holes in their lineup heading into the 2021-2022 season. After a stellar start to the season that saw the team jump out to a 5-2-2 record midway through October, the injury bug hit the Hornets hard. The last third of the season has been a challenge, but the silver lining of injuries and shuffled lineups is the opportunity to develop young players and provide chances for others to step in and make a difference.

Proctor Alumni: Max Cobb '83 Applying Lessons on the World Stage

When Max Cobb ‘83 enrolled at the Carroll School as a 6th grader who had recently been diagnosed with dyslexia, he was barely reading at a 1st grade level. Little did he know that the arduous work during those early years at Carroll would unlock a series of experiences that would define the next forty years of his life, including connections made at Proctor Academy that would lead him to Dartmouth College and a career with US Biathlon. 

Team Spotlight: Crew 2021

Proctor’s Crew Team has grown from a fledgling sport at Proctor with a few interested students six years ago to a robust program and almost 40 rowers this fall. Under the leadership of Geoff and Beth Sahs, P’25 and captains Mason Guerster ‘22 and Johnny Mutkoski ‘22, Proctor’s boys’ and girls’ Crew Teams recently competed in the New Hampshire Championship Regatta in Pembroke, NH. Mason and Johnny share insights on their season to-date and the team’s hard work over the past two months in preparation for their regatta.
